YOUTH SWIM LESSONS
Ages 6-12 years
Come learn everything aquatic! The Y Progressive Aquatic Program is perfect for children to learn water skills in each of the five following areas:
- Stroke Development
- Water Safety
- Rescue Skills
- Water Sports and Games
- Personal Growth
Lesson groups are determined by the swimmer's current ability. Call 373-2400 x224 to schedule a skill evaluation if your child has not had lessons in the past 6 months.

POLLIWOG

Level 1
Beginning level where youth will learn the basic water fundamentals including front and back floats and front crawl.
GUPPY

Level 2
Participant is able to tread water for one minute and is able to swim one length of the pool comfortably on their front and back with beginning rotary breathing.
MINNOW

Level 3
Participant is able to swim two lengths of the pool, using front crawl with good consistent rotary breathing and two lengths of back stroke.
FISH, FLYING FISH, SHARK

Levels 4-6
Fish - Participant is able to complete a six pool-length endurance swim without rest and can perform good breaststroke.
Flying Fish - Participant is able to complete a ten pool-length endurance swim without rest and can perform a good butterfly stroke.
Shark
- Participant is able to swim four pool lengths of each of the four strokes (front & back crawl, breast stroke, butterfly) and can perform a flip turn.
YOUTH STROKE TECHNIQUES
Swim Team Preparation
This class is designed for youth ages 6-12 years to improve the technique of the four competitive strokes, starts and turns. Youth must be at the Minnow level (or higher) and have fundamental knowledge of the basic strokes.
