THESE CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE OLEAN YMCA THROUGHOUT THE YEAR:

SPIRIT-MIND-BODY CLASSES

These classes not only help improve your physical fitness, but allow quiet time for reflection and stress reduction. These classes generally focus on breathing control, flexibility, balance and mental focus.

BENEFITS OF TAKING Y SPIRIT-MIND-BODY CLASSES:

CORE/STRETCH: This class will provide core strength and stretching exercises to strengthen, relax and elongate muscles.

RELAXATION: A 15 min. class to help body restore and recover. Warm-up with movement (i.e. walking) recommended prior to the class for full benefit.

YOGA: Create length, strength and improve balance and flexibility with this total body workout. Experience postures, movements and relaxation in this class.


STRENGTHENING CLASSES

These classes will strengthen and condition muscles. Most classes incorporate equipment such as dumbbells, body bars, bands, etc.

ABS/CORE: This 15-minute class focuses on the abdominal/low back muscles and other core stabilizing muscles. Good core strength helps reduce back pain and improves overall fitness and stability.

EXPRESS BODY SCULPT: This 15 minute class focuses on strengthening and toning one area of the body per class. Variety of equipment may be used.

STRENGTH: A conditioning class to firm and strengthen muscles of the entire body. This class uses resistance exercises to develop muscle strength and endurance.


CARDIO CLASSES

These classes will increase heart rate and help improve your overall cardiovascular and cardio respiratory fitness. These classes are upbeat and fun to participate in. Some classes incorporate steps, dance, punching bags and bikes.

CARDIO MIX: This cardiovascular workout will improve the efficiency of your heart, lungs and circulatory system through continuous efforts that will not only elevate your heart rate, but also burn calories and increase your endurance.

CARDIO CYCLING: This class is performed on a LiveStrong® indoor cycling bike. InstructorS will guide you through an all-terrain ride while focusing on proper body alignment, heart rate and proper cycling techniques.

ZUMBA®: This class utilizes dance moves to provide fun and variety to your cardio workout.

ZUMBA® AND DANCE FITNESS: These classes increase your heart rate through dance.

While Zumba® is safe and effective for people of all ability levels, and when done correctly is safe for knees, hips, lower back, and joints - the shoes you wear will affect your class experience.  Wear fitness shoes, however because Zumba® involves dance your shoes must be able to pivot.  Do not wear shoes with lots of traction.  Running shoes are NOT recommended. You need a shoe that allows your foot to pivot on the ball of the foot without putting pressure on your knees or hips. If you have dance style shoes in your closet make sure they have the proper support for a fitness class.



COMBINATION CLASSES

Our Combination Classes combine together both the cardio and strength element of exercise into one class. Busy schedules and obligations often force us to limit the time we spend exercising. These classes use techniques that are both efficient and effective in burning calories, increasing muscular strength and endurance and giving you the variety you need to stay motivated.

AOA MOTION PLUS: This class for Active Older Adults involves both standing and floor exercises. Motion Plus participants have the option to gather for coffee after class. A terrific way to meet new people and feel great!

AOA FITNESS FRIDAY: This class for Active Older Adults meets on Friday mornings and the format changes from week-to-week. You can expect a great cardio workout with strength exercises in a fun atmosphere!

BOOT CAMP: These classes offer a combination of movements to provide aerobic exercise and strength training.

CARDIO MIX / DANCE MIX: Instructors alternate to lead this "wild card class" that will always provide a great workout!

CARDIO & STRENGTH INTERVALS/CIRCUIT: These classes offer a combination of aerobic exercise and strength training exercises.

DANCE CIRCUIT: This class incorporate Dance and strength training/sculpting for a fun workout.

MORNING MADNESS: Join us for a fun early morning workout. Cardio and strength exercises are combined in this workout that gets you ready for the day.

RBT: REST BASED TRAINING: Class is based on the concept of Rest Based Exercise. Rest and work in exercise are dependent upon one another and together deliver better results. In this class you push until you can't and rest until you can. Every participant determines their own intensity. Great workout to improve your metabolic efficiency.

RBTXpress: Shorter version of the popular fat burning RBT class.


SilverSneakers® MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND RANGE OF MOVEMENT

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.


SilverSneakers® CARDIO CIRCUIT

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.
